A Walk in the Ruins of Knapp’s Castle

I love castles. Knapp’s Castle, unfortunately, was destroyed in a forest fire during the 1940s and all that’s left of it are sandstone ruins, fireplace pillars and some of the wall structures. This private property in Santa Barbara, California has a panoramic view of Lake Cachuma and Santa Ynez Valley. The owner is generous enough to open it to the public. The road to get there is paved but quite narrow and filled with twists and turns.

Once you get to the trailhead, park at the side of the road. I would not consider this a hike. It would be better to arrive early because it is a popular destination spot. It should be less than a mile from the trailhead to the ruins and…

Love at First Hike – Historic Railroad Trail

Consider this post my Valentine’s edition. While most people (who are married or in relationships) are planning romantic dates this time of the year, I’m busy finding new places and hiking paths to explore. Yes, this is my life. I fall in love with sunrises, sunsets, cloud formations, amazing views, rocks, arches – I think you get the picture right? As I got older, I found I liked my company more and others a lot less. This is probably why this trip was so memorable. It was my first solo trip in a long time.
